The beginning in Stasicratous Street
In 1982, ‘Papageorgiou & Papapetrou Clinic’ started providing both outpatient and inpatient services, based in Stasicratous Street in Nicosia. Dr Papageorgiou and Dr Papapetrou provided specialist Obstetrics & Gynaecology services, supported by Dr Boika Papageorgiou, specialist anaesthetist and paediatrician and Dr Uta Papapetrou, specialist general practitioner.
By focusing on providing excellent service and building a relationship based on trust with patients, the workload increased rapidly and the partnership proved to be a success within 2-3 years. As a result, the space available in the clinic proved inadequate to fulfil the clinic’s workload.

Moving on to Penelopis Delta Street
So, in 1987 the partnership moved to its own, new, purpose built facility located in the Hilton area, on 9 Penelopis Delta Street. The new clinic was a two storey building housing 18 beds, two operating theatres, two delivery rooms, physiotherapy area, four examination rooms and waiting areas. It was it at this time the decision was taken to form the ‘In Vitro Fertilisation Department’ after securing the cooperation of Charalambos Sergiou, a specialist embryologist working in the ‘In Vitro Fertilisation Department’ of Kings College London.

Expanding to make the largest maternity clinic in the country
After continued success, in 1990 the clinic expanded by two floors, increasing the bed capacity from 18 to 34, adding a further operating room and increased number of examination rooms. In addition the expansion included the introduction of 5 luxury suites on the top floor. The suites include a small living area, very comfortable patient room, kitchen and veranda.

Continuing the growth
Between 1997 and 2000 four more high calibre Obstetrics and Gynaecology specialists, Dr Eleni Pipi, Dr Loukas Varnavidies, Dr Afroditi Elisseou and Dr. Kyriakos Kakoullis, joined the team, strengthening our medical presence and adding to the Medical Center’s success.

In 2000 the clinic was re-branded to Mother and Child Medical Center. The clinic also has three plots of land, attaching to the side and back of the clinic, acquired for further development. Plans for expansion are being developed.
