A local guide to the old town, seafront and nearby heritage.
Limassol combines a lively waterfront with a walkable old centre and ancient sites close by. Explore the harbour and historic streets, then choose a coastal or archaeological excursion beyond the city.
1. Limassol Castle and old town
The castle sits in the historic centre and houses the Cyprus Medieval Museum. Afterwards, wander nearby streets for small shops, cafés and traditional architecture.
2. Old Port
The old harbour area is a good place to pause for a meal or a walk by the water. It connects the historic centre with the modern marina and the long coastal promenade.
3. Limassol Marina
The modern marina brings together waterfront paths, boats, restaurants and views across the coast. It offers a striking contrast with the old port a short walk away.
4. Molos Seafront Sculpture Park
Molos is a popular open-air promenade beside the sea. Its gardens, cycle path, play areas and outdoor sculptures make it an easy walk for visitors of different ages.
5. Kourion Archaeological Site
West of the city, Kourion is known for its Greco-Roman theatre, mosaics and cliffside setting above the Mediterranean. The site is extensive and exposed to the sun, so allow time and bring water.
6. Kolossi Castle
This medieval castle lies west of Limassol among the vineyards. It is associated with the military orders that held estates on Cyprus and with the region’s long history of sugar and wine production.
7. Amathus Archaeological Site
East of the city, Amathus was one of Cyprus’s ancient city-kingdoms. The remains include the Agora, public baths, tombs and the hilltop sanctuary area.
8. Kourion Beach
Below the archaeological site, Kourion Beach offers a broad sand-and-pebble shoreline and views toward the headland. Check local sea conditions and seasonal lifeguard information before swimming.
9. Municipal Market and Agiou Andreou Street
Explore the market area and nearby traditional shopping streets for produce, cafés and local everyday life. Opening hours vary, so visit earlier in the day for the busiest market atmosphere.
10. Limassol wine villages
For a day beyond the city, head into the foothills to villages such as Omodos and Laneia. The surrounding region is known for vineyards, wineries and stone-built village centres; arrange transport and tasting appointments in advance.
Before You Visit
Kourion, Kolossi and Amathus are outside the city centre. Check transport, opening times and admission details before setting out.
